Amitabh Bachchan filmography

Amitabh Bachchan is an Indian film actor, playback singer and producer, who has had a prolific career. He made his debut as a narrator for Mrinal Sen's ''Bhuvan Shome'' (1969), and acted in ''Saat Hindustani'' (1969). He later appeared in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's ''Anand'' (1971), for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1973 Bachchan played the role of Inspector Vijay Khanna in Prakash Mehra's action film ''Zanjeer''. He has since appeared in twenty films with the character name Vijay. The same year, Bachchan appeared in ''Abhimaan'' and ''Namak Haraam''. For the latter, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Two years later he appeared in Yash Chopra's ''Deewar'' (1975), which earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Actor nomination. Bachchan then acted in Ramesh Sippy's ''Sholay'' (1975), which is considered to be one of the greatest Indian films of all time. During the 1970s, he was dubbed as the "angry young man". After appearing in the romantic drama ''Kabhie Kabhie'' (1976), Bachchan starred in Manmohan Desai's action comedy ''Amar Akbar Anthony'' (1977). He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in the latter. He then played dual roles in ''Kasme Vaade'' (1978) and ''Don'' (1978).
In the 1980s, he was cast in numerous films, including the action films ''Dostana'' (1980) and ''Shaan'' (1980), the romantic film ''Silsila'' (1981), the action crime ''Kaalia'' (1981) and the drama ''Shakti'' (1982) with Dilip Kumar. His roles in ''Dostana'' and ''Shakti'' earned him the nominations for Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 1990, Bachchan portrayed the gangster Vijay Deenanath Chauhan in Mukul S. Anand's ''Agneepath'' and later starred in ''Hum'' (1991). Despite being a box-office failure, the former garnered him the National Film Award for Best Actor and has since developed a cult status in India. He also earned the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for ''Hum''. In 1996, he started his film production company Amitabh Bachchan Corporation, whose first release ''Tere Mere Sapne'' (1996) was a box-office failure.
In 2000, Bachchan appeared in a supporting role of a university headmaster in Aditya Chopra's ''Mohabbatein''. It won him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. The same year, he made his television debut as the host of the game show ''Kaun Banega Crorepati''. He has since hosted its every season except for the third one. He then went on to play the role of a short-tempered banker in ''Aankhen'' (2002), an ideal father in ''Baghban'' (2003) and a conflicted cop in ''Khakee'' (2004). In 2005, he played the role of a teacher of a blind and deaf girl in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ''Black'', for which he received the National Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 2009, he received another National Award for Best Actor for playing a Progeria patient in R. Balki's ''Paa''. He also portrayed the title character in ''Bhoothnath'' (2008) and its sequel. In 2015, Bachchan appeared in films like ''Shamitabh'' and ''Piku''.
Bachchan has also narrated several films including ''Shatranj Ke Khilari'' (1977), ''Lagaan'' (2001), ''Parineeta'' (2005), ''Ra.One'' (2011) and ''Krrish 3'' (2013). He has also performed as a playback singer for films like ''Mr. Natwarlal'' (1979), ''Laawaris'' (1981), ''Silsila'' (1981), and ''Baghban'' (2003).
